Getting to Know Chinenye Nwigwe, Associate at VestedWorld

At VestedWorld, we are thrilled to introduce Chinenye Nwigwe, who joined us in September last year as an Investment Associate. Coming from a background in investment banking and startup advisory, Chinenye brings deep experience working with founders building in emerging markets. We recently had the opportunity to discuss her career path, the unique perspectives she brings to the team, and what she’s reading.

Nneka Eze: Can you tell us about your journey to VestedWorld?

Chinenye Nwigwe: I started on the more traditional side of finance. I did my undergrad in economics and began my career in investment banking, working on traditional infrastructure and fundraising transactions. That experience built my technical skills in financial analysis, valuation, and due diligence. Later, I moved into a startup advisory and corporate finance role where I worked closely with founders through their fundraising journeys. That was my first exposure to the venture ecosystem, and I saw the quantum of opportunity that exists within the African market. Moving fully into VC was the natural next step because I wanted to continue supporting founders while applying my technical skills, and joining VestedWorld has allowed me to do just that.

Nneka Eze: Where did you grow up?

Chinenye Nwigwe: I grew up in Lagos. I’ve lived all my life in Lagos, and my entire education was there. I am a Lagos girl through and through!

Nneka Eze: What do you bring to the team that is unique to you?

Chinenye Nwigwe: Having worked closely with founders, I bring an appreciation for the founder perspective. African founders, in particular, are some of the most resilient people I’ve ever met; they build with very limited resources. I try to understand the constraints they operate within, which helps me engage more thoughtfully with them.

Nneka Eze: What are you most looking forward to with VestedWorld and your journey into venture capital?

Chinenye Nwigwe: I would love to deepen my knowledge of the space and grow as an investor. I am particularly looking forward to supporting female founders. Women building in this space face an additional layer of constraints regarding access, fundraising, and networks. I want to help identify those opportunities and support these founders throughout their journeys.

Nneka Eze: What investment themes are you most excited about?

Chinenye Nwigwe: I am very excited about the consumer space. There is a massive opportunity for founders who build efficiently and in a locally relevant way. The majority of African markets are still highly import-dependent, so entrepreneurs who can tap into that space, build the local value chain, improve distribution, and find local solutions are positioned to capture the market in unprecedented ways.

Nneka Eze: What are you reading right now?

Chinenye Nwigwe: I like reading on my Kindle, and I’m currently reading Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. It follows a family through generations, from the pre-colonial era to modern times. The book shows how different events shape people’s lives. In my work, beyond understanding the numbers, context is everything. Understanding a founder’s background, their experiences, and the history of the market they play in is incredibly important.
