Why Do Indian Serial Romantasize Cheating And Why It Aint Tuff.

ME EMERGING FROM MY 9 DAY COMA LIKE
HEYYYYYY……..ikik y'all prolly wanna sacrifice my soul so that Bonrad can finally happen but I WAS BUSY (watching good boy 10/10 drama btw) and know y'all prolly already done built my coffin but I'm back now so like ……friends ?

YOU ALL RN PROLLY
OKKKKK so welcome back officially to another coffee-SIKE banana shake and GNARLY (istg katseye has me in a chokehold) induced TED-WRITES my TEA-ERS and today I finally decided that Bollywood can take a seat on the bleachers and apply some burn cream cause today imma rant bout the favourite nation wide Indian aunty community past time …….INDIAN SERIALS.
Like I remember watching these 340p , bad camera work , whiplash ahh animations , dead VFX serials with my mom …like how do I not remember what I had for breakfast today but I remember the plot from yeh rishta kya kehlata hai like fr gimmi a break bro be so fr rn.
ANYWAY today imma yapp bout how these serials loveeeeeee the cheating plot for TRP spikes and how it ain't tuff.
So grab a snack ..or 3 IDC and blast some doja cause imma bouta crash out-

ALL HAIL THE QUEEN….ANUUU
Anupamaa: Vanraj, Sir, Please.
Let’s start with the serial everyone’s mom is obsessed with — Anupamaa. Bro, Vanraj is literally the poster boy of audacity. Man had a loyal wife who practically built his life, and he thought it was a flex to sneak around with Kavya. The writers didn’t just show his cheating, they dragged it for episodes — giving him monologues, guilt-trips, dramatic rain shots, the works. And the worst part? They packaged it like his affair was “emotional emptiness.” Sir, you weren’t empty. You were just greedy. Like bro lost diamonds in search or gold smh.
And then Anupamaa — queen that she is — was expected to constantly forgive, “for the family.” Like why do Indian serials always hand women the pain and then the unpaid therapy work?

THE SHOWS REVIEWS GAVE ME AN ANEURYSM
Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin: Emotional Gymnastics
This show literally turned cheating into a full-time circus. Virat is married to Sai, but is busy maintaining an “emotional connection” with Pakhi — his ex. And the show actually wants you to sit there and sympathize with him because “pyaar ho jaata hai.” No bro, that’s not “pyaar ho jaata hai,” that’s “can’t commit to one person because I like drama.” Imma be fr I LOVE drama but not the drama where you tryna cheat like your just loosing aura atp.
And Pakhi? She’s painted like this tragic figure stuck between love and duty, when in reality, she’s just meddling in someone else’s marriage with the speed of a Formula 1 driver.

PAKHI BE LIKE- DUN DUN DUN DUN

HELLO ?WHERE IS OUR QWEEN KOMOLIKA
Kasauti Zindagi Kay: Eternal Cheating Aesthetic™
This show built its entire empire on cheating. Anurag and Prerna are the OG “soulmates” who keep ending up in everyone else’s marriages. Like, one minute they’re married to different people, the next minute they’re running in slow motion towards each other on a bridge. And the show frames it as destiny. Destiny?? Babes, it’s not destiny, it’s just disrespect with a side of bad timing.
They literally made betrayal look like some cosmic love story — like cheating wasn’t shady, it was fate. I don’t know who needed to hear this, but fate doesn’t require hotel room keys. The ONLY character Imma always HYPE is miss mam Komolika like Girlypop had her goals SET , clock it queen .

Kundali Bhagya: Cheating with Extra Side-Eye
This one is just a cheat-fest dressed up as “twists.” Karan married Preeta but kept giving longing stares and soft background music moments to other women. Every time he did it, the camera zoomed in for 10 whole seconds like it was supposed to make us cry. Babe, it doesn’t make me cry — it makes me want to yeet my remote across the room. And again, the wife is expected to “understand” him. Understand what? That he can’t keep his eyes in one direction?
The Pattern:
Every one of these serials plays the same game. The cheater isn’t just shown as wrong — they’re shown as suffering. The one being cheated on? Expected to martyr themselves, have a lil crash out , and maybe even forgive for “family honor.” Meanwhile, TRPs skyrocket because nothing hooks aunties more than stolen glances at the mandir.
The Problem:
Cheating isn’t noble. It’s not destiny. It’s not “majboori.” It’s cowardice dressed up in an Ekta Kapoor fever dream. And honestly? It’s lazy writing. Instead of showing real struggles couples face — money issues, career compromises, toxic families — these shows take the shortcut: cheating + background score = endless drama.
But off-screen, it’s harmful. It normalizes betrayal as “love,” makes women out to be obstacles or saints, and teaches viewers that breaking trust is justifiable if you cry hard enough.
