The Fastest Man in The USA is a White Guy

Sam Blaskowski is also the second fastest man in the world as of May 31, 2026

The fastest man in the US in 2026, so far, is an almost unknown white man. Sam Blaskowski ran the same speed that Noah Lyles did to win the bronze in the 2025 Tokyo Worlds, 9.89 seconds in 100 meters.

His story is fascinating. Blaskowski is from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In high school, Sam played basketball, baseball, football, and soccer. When they cut him from the basketball team, he joined the track team. He then led his high school team to four consecutive track titles. Sam had three state titles in his senior year of high school: long jump, 100 meters, and 200 meters.

When he was applying to colleges, only one school wanted him as an athlete, and they had no athletic scholarship money for anyone. No D1 coaches called. None.

It was his parents Alma Mater, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, a Division III school, who called on him. By the time he finished college, his speed had earned him four National titles in the 100-meter sprint. He won three National titles in the 60 meters and three in the 200 meters. That would be 11 National D3 titles.

Sam tried out for the 2024 Olympic trials. He failed to make the team but did well enough to attract the attention of national sprinting coaches.

Sam had a problem: he wanted to train with the best, but he was in Wisconsin while the elite track trainers were in Florida. He had a plan to move to Florida. He took a job working at a regional airport near his home, saved his money, and moved to Florida.

In Florida, he is trained by Dennis Mitchell, a well-respected coach who trains Sha’Carri Richardson and Kenny Bednarek, both of whom have stood on the Olympic podium. Now, Sam had the advantage of elite training in addition to natural talent.

Fast forward to May 30th, 2026. Sam breaks 10 seconds. He runs a 9.89, the fastest in the U.S. and second fastest in the world for 2026. Yeah, second in the world.

Nigerian sprinter Kayinsola Ajayi is the very fastest man in the world in 2026, with a time of 9.84 seconds. Sam is second with his 9.87. Noah Lyles has the third-fastest time at 9.88 seconds.

I know about Blaskowski because track is my favorite sport, so I follow it even when it is not the Olympics.

Sam Blaskowski believed in himself. He is the fastest white sprinter EVER. That is history being made. I love it when racial stereotypes are broken in any fashion.

And that is so cool.
