GPU Audio at Audio Developer Conference 2023
The GPU Audio team once again headed to England for the 2023 Audio Developer Conference in Blackfriars, London. Throughout the three days, attendees were treated to a packed schedule of inspiring talks, presentations, and hands-on workshops from a leading set of luminaries and professionals in the field of audio development.
Each day is laid out with a tight schedule, held within a series of rooms, halls and event spaces. The schedule is complemented by breaks, breakfast, lunch, and social events — which include an open mic night, quiz, and tour of the online ADC space; Gathertown. Let’s take a look at how the show went…
Day One: Monday
This year’s ADC kicked off a GPU Audio workshop that invited guests to ‘Go spatial with GPU AUDIO’. We overcame technical limitations of our own, with GPU Audio CTO Alexander Prokopchuk sadly unable to lead the workshop in person, and doing so via the internet, with CEO Sasha Talashov taking the floor. Participants joined us early for exclusive SLA access to evaluate the GPU Audio SDK, which will be powering next-gen spatial experiences and applications.

This 3-hour intensive look at GPU Audio processing offered a hands-on experience for attendees, utilizing GPU-ready DSP components — from delay lines to convolutions for mono and multi-channel applications. An engaged selection of participants learned how to use our API to offload DSP onto the GPU, organize data transfers, and sync their applications with the results in real-time and offline modes.
A flurry of questions followed the session, alongside a mention of some of the GPU Audio partner companies, including Mach1, MNTRA, Vienna Symphonic Library, and Voger. Now, on to prepping the booth for the full show, which would start the following day! We’ll be showcasing Vienna Power House, fielding questions from attendees, and sharing some of our upcoming plans.
Day Two: Tuesday
Day two opened the floor to the Upper River Rooms, which conveniently doubled up as the food area at lunch and breakfast times. We set up our booth between Focusrite and JUCE, with many familiar names surrounding the room, including Native Instruments, SoftTube, Bitwig, ReasonStudios, SuperTone and many more. Not only did we participate in the show on this day, but we also launched the ‘Make Your Sound 3D’ competition — check out the GPU Audio blog to be in with a chance to win $7k+ in prizes!

Tuesday afternoon saw the second GPU Audio event, CEO Sasha Talashov presenting ‘Accelerated audio computing: From problem to solution’ in the main atrium. Speaking to a packed out audience, a host of subjects were covered including support for new platforms, new features, use cases, and working scenarios. He also shared his vision for the upcoming SDK and discussed the challenges of making public releases within the plugin industry standards.
The second day continued with more in-depth discussions, questions, and demonstrations at the booth, with a healthy interest from ADC attendees in the GPU Audio technology and its potential future developments. Day two is done, onto the final day!
Day Three: Wednesday
The final day of the show brought the best weather of the week — and the chance to speak to Martin Saleteg of VSL about his role in the release of Vienna Power House. The day started with the usual breakfast coffee and setup, with a flurry of questions leading into the first talks of the day. There is a huge amount of people to learn from at ADC, and a vast range of disciples within the world of audio development — so it was hugely inspiring to be told “Everyone is talking about GPU Audio” at the booth by many of the attendees.
After the first break we headed downstairs to speak to Martin, one of the lead developers at VSL, about the new Vienna Power House. In a fascinating conversation, we discussed his early programming exploits, how he got started with VSL, as well as the development and future of Vienna Power House. Once we’d enjoyed another lunch break, the show’s talks continued and we saw out the final day fielding questions, presenting more demos, and discussing the tech. The final closing address was made at 5 pm, after which we packed up our booth, and said goodbye to friends old and new, before making our respective ways home. Another show is done for the year, here’s to the 2024 event!
So, a huge thanks to the people who made the event happen, as well as all of the sponsors, and attendees, who had so much praise, feedback, and ideas for GPU Audio. Be in with a chance to win $7k+ in prizes by entering our ‘Make Your Sound 3D’ immersive mixing competition, and check out Vienna Power House for yourself today, with a free 30-day demo.
