I used to wonder why certain people felt the need to take shots at me.
Little comments. Subtle jabs. Passive digs. Unprovoked negativity. Energy that felt strangely personal, even when I had done nothing to them.
It confused me at first.
Now it doesn’t.
Because I’ve learned something simple: people don’t try to tear down what they feel equal to. They don’t waste time attacking what they feel above. They only try to pull down what they feel beneath.
Tearing someone down is an admission.
It’s a confession without words.
It says, “I see something in you I don’t see in myself.”
And instead of rising to meet it, they try to drag it lower so they don’t have to feel the difference.
That’s why the criticism is often irrational. Emotional. Petty. Personal. It’s not logical because it’s not coming from logic. It’s coming from comparison.
And comparison makes insecure people ugly.
I stopped taking it personally when I realized this.
People who are doing well don’t sit around plotting how to disturb others. People who are focused on their own growth don’t have the time or the interest to analyze, gossip, or undermine someone else.
They’re busy.
It’s always the idle ones. The bitter ones. The ones stuck in their own stagnation. The ones who see someone moving with intention while they feel stuck in place.
That gap bothers them.
And instead of closing the gap through effort, they try to close it through sabotage.
But here’s the part they don’t understand:
You cannot pull down someone who is internally grounded.
All you do is reveal yourself.
Every insult, every jab, every attempt to belittle says more about the person throwing it than the person receiving it.
It shows envy. It shows frustration. It shows a lack of discipline to improve themselves. It shows a need to feel significant by diminishing someone else.
And once you see that clearly, the sting disappears.
Because now you understand the source.
I don’t get offended anymore. I observe.
I don’t get emotional anymore. I recognize.
I don’t feel attacked. I feel informed.
Informed about how someone sees themselves.
Because secure people don’t behave like that. Confident people don’t move like that. Focused people don’t talk like that.
Only people who feel beneath you feel the need to bring you down.
That’s not arrogance. That’s pattern recognition.
And when you realize that, you stop reacting. You stop defending. You stop explaining.
You let them talk.
Because every word they throw upward is proof of where they believe they stand.
