Seasonal changes sweep past drains and gutters, find excuses on littered pendulums swinging in the dark, wild swings for yes, stillness for no, even when no questions are asked of them.

I fear their violent inclinations, their yesses a shade of bruised purple on white skin. They shake and shimmy, their wild dances free from constraint’s expectations. As though they have all the answers and refuse to share them. Their noes, an aftermath.

Yet we all watch the way the wind blows and the pendulums swing, lay down bets on uncertain outcomes, weigh out probable futures before throwing salt over our shoulders and moving on. Grandma would be proud.
