From the Abyss, I Summon… One Run
Two weeks. No runs. No jogs. Not even a guilt-powered walk. Just an echo chamber of excuses and cough drops because, first, we were sick. For some, being sick isn’t even an excuse. They will keep getting out there until their foot falls off. Clearly, I’m not those people.
Then… who knows? The days blurred. Time lost meaning. My shoes probably forgot who I was. It felt like falling into a motivational abyss. One moment you’re training, the next you’re wondering if brushing your teeth counts as cardio.
At one point, I seriously considered whether we need a drill sergeant . Some big scary dude to stand at the foot of the bed at 5 a.m. shouting,
“YOU SAID YOU WANTED TO RUN. MOVE, CIVILIAN!” Honestly? Tempting.
So, this week, I’m lowering the bar. The challenge: One run. Not three. Not a miracle 10K. Just one single run.
Because here’s the thing: The run I do this week will still be more than the zero runs I did the past two. And sometimes the greatest comeback begins with the tiniest shuffle.
So here we go — starting again. From bed. From excuses. From whatever that was. One run. One step. Hopefully, I will find my stride.
Still panting. Almost still showing up. 🐢
