Why Yugioh Zexal Is My Favorite Season of Yugioh!

Once every generation, there comes a Yugioh series that is an over the top box office hit and to me, that was Yugioh Zexal. Premiered in April of ’11, I watched bits and pieces of it then grew to love it. And you know, Yugioh Zexal also got its fair share of hate too but as they say, you can’t please everybody.

Yuma teams up with Astral and they become one of the mightiest dueling teams if not the mightiest in the entire realm, with Reginald Kastle a.k.a Shark a close second and Kite Tenjo bringing up the rear.

Astral and Yuma, I love their rapport and at times it seems that they’re stressing each other out but they make a great team. Astral’s strategic ability, and Yuma’s bravery. Together they topple some truly might fiends and opponents but also make a lot of friends.

I can relate to this. Even though I’m antisocial, people are still drawn to me; I don’t ask them to be nor want them to be but they are. And a lot of times, you don’t choose or get to choose whose in your life and at what time, some things have a way of choosing you.

The Number Cards is my favorite feature about Yugioh Zexal, 100 unique monster cards with very unique effects.

It’s like, every time I see a Number Card, I get so excited; the kind of excitement that equates finding a quarter on the ground. Like I remember when Kite summoned Number 62: Galaxy Eyes Prime Photon Dragon for the first time. I fell in love.

Now, I have a Galaxy Eyes Deck on Yugioh Master Duel and I use it to dominate the duel circuit.

What else I love about the Number Cards is that they make XYZ summoning easy and it’s way better than Synchro summoning which is a pain in the ass.

I remember one time I was dueling on Master Duel using my Castle of Sharks deck, and I was ruling the duel. I was summoning then XYZ summoning then got my hands on a Rank Up Magic Card then I brought a couple of cards back from the brink, it was great.

Let’s face it, the XYZ monsters in Zexal are among the most awesome ever created, ever summoned.

The 7 Barian Emperors are individuals from a previous life that was taken from them by Don Thousand then were turned into his Barian Warriors. Each Barian Warrior possessed their own Number Card with Nash a.k.a. Reginald Kastle leading them.

What I really loved about the Barian Emperors is that they weren’t your average run of the mill bad guys, they were super powerful individuals with expert dueling skills.

My favorite out of all 7 of them was Nash, he was a powerful leader and believed in his cause to protect Barian World. Nash was a powerful duelist and it was always awesome watching him duel Don Thousand alongside Yuma, then it was Yuma and Astral vs. Nash alone; it was intense.

I didn’t care for Vector, he was a lunatic; I didn’t mind Mizar, Gorog, Alito or even Marin and Dumon. I especially loved the episode where each of Yuma’s friends took on a Barian Emperor like Bronk taking on Marin, Quattro was taking on Nash leaving Trey and Quinton to take on Mizar.

Nistro vs. Alito, it was definitely a great thing to watch. Yugioh Zexal is always going to be my favorite Yugioh season, if not for the reasons I mentioned above alone.

Last but not least, the Spell and Trap cards in Yugioh Zexal is among the most unique I’ve ever seen. Off the top of my head, the Spell Card, Message in a Bottle. Kite played this card against his father in the 3 on one tag duel with Yuma and Shark.

Message in a Bottle allowed him to bring 3 monsters back from the graveyard but he was in danger of taking 4000 points of damage if he didn’t use those 3 monsters to XYZ summon.

Halfway to Forever is one of my favorite Traps because it allows you to bring back 2 monsters then use both of them to XYZ summon, this is handy for when you want to get a powerful monster on the field.

Barian’s Chaos Draw, another spell card and an actual move performed by Nash during his duels, this allowed Nash to get a spell card to his hand called Rank Up Magic The Seventh One, allowing him to automatically XYZ then Chaos XYZ summon. Easily one of my favorite cards.

There have been spell and trap cards, but many of the ones in Yugioh Zexal really complement the decks they’re in.

That said, I don’t care who doesn’t like Yugioh Zexal, it has a lot of epic duels and a lot of intense dialog. If I’m being honest, it brought about one of the coolest and easiest summoning methods ever created; XYZ summoning.
