As We Made Rotis
Everybody was happy

@Seema
My spouse loves rotis. He usually buys them from the store, but sometimes when I eat them, my mouth, nostrils, and throat tingle. I don’t really like the store-bought ones, but with kids and everything else, I haven’t been making rotis the way I used to before children.
We had atta flour, so today, I made rotis at home. They were wabi-sabi rotis, not perfectly round or flawless, but were decent to eat.
I made six or seven, and I had some leftover dough. I called my children to play with that. I told them, “This is play -doh you need, not purchased chemical ones. Be creative and show me what you can make.”
My six-year-old daughter made a snowman. She knows its name in Spanish and Japanese, muñeco de nieve and yuki daruma, respectively.
My three-and-a-half-year-old son made a hornworm, a big, fat green caterpillar we see in summer on chili and tomato plants.
I fried their little artworks.

They ate them, butter-slathered, while we watched the Snow moon rise from our backyard. I told them that moon-watching is called tsukimi in Japanese.

We had fun, and I promised to make rotis more often. And whenever I do, I will leave some dough for them to create with. Everyone was happy.
I love it when simple frugal things make everybody happy.
