The Weights We Didn’t Choose
Healing and Forgiving Are Not the Same Journey

One thing I've never been able to understand is why people are always in such a hurry to make someone else forgive.
Almost every time a heart breaks, the advice arrives before the healing does. "Just let it go, forgive them, move on." As if forgiveness is a switch you can turn on the moment someone tells you it's time.
I don't think it works that way. Some wounds don't stay because we're holding onto them. They stay because they changed something inside us.
There are people who don't just leave us with memories. They leave us with questions we never wanted to carry. They make us doubt our own judgment, our own kindness, sometimes even our own worth. And when someone has been the reason you spent nights crying into a pillow, trying to understand what you did wrong, forgiveness isn't the first thing your heart reaches for. It reaches for safety.
I think we’ve confused forgiveness with goodness. Somehow we’ve started believing that if you’re still angry, still hurt, or still unable to forgive, then you haven’t healed enough. But maybe healing doesn’t begin with forgiving someone else. Maybe it begins with finally admitting how deeply they hurt you. There is no shame in admitting that your heart is still carrying what your mind keeps trying to put down.
There is nothing wrong with protecting the part of yourself that is still trying to understand what happened.
We are so gentle with broken bones. We never ask someone to run before they can stand. Yet when it comes to the heart, we expect people to wake up one morning and suddenly feel peace for someone who brought them pain. Some people deserve forgiveness. Some people never ask for it. And sometimes, whether they deserve it or not isn't even the question. The question is whether your heart is ready to put down a weight it didn't choose to carry. If the answer is no, that doesn't make you bitter. It makes you honest. Maybe one day forgiveness will arrive, without you forcing it. Or maybe it won't. And I think we should talk more about that. Because there is a strange kind of freedom in admitting that healing and forgiveness are not the same journey.
You can stop crying and still not forgive. You can rebuild your life and still decide that what happened to you mattered. You can become happy again without pretending the pain was acceptable. Perhaps forgiveness is a gift. But it stops being a gift the moment people start demanding it from someone who is still bleeding. So if your heart still whispers, "I can't forgive them." Listen to it. Not because hate deserves a home inside you. But because healing has never responded well to deadlines.
Some wounds are not asking to be forgiven. They’re simply asking for enough time to stop hurting. They just need permission to heal at their own pace..🌷
