Drake is a created player — not a respectable rapper.

Long Live XXXTENTACION!

Drake’s “Iceman” album released this past week and the reviews have not been great.

This is strictly based on what I’ve seen on social media so far.

Even Drake’s most loyal supporters are calling out his lack of growth in music. There’s nothing wrong with making music people can vibe to, but it becomes a problem when you’ve allegedly stolen songs from independent artists like 1900Rugrat to complete the album. In case you haven’t heard, 1900Rugrat made a TikTok stating that he and Drake were in contact last year about production work. 1900Rugrat sent songs that were meant for his own album and there was a specific song Drake took a liking to — he even offered to do a feature on it. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and 1900Rugrat immediately recognized his work when Iceman dropped.

Sounds familiar?

XXXTENTACION experienced a similar situation.

When the “Look At Me” rapper did his first interview after being released from jail in 2017, he also called out Drake for mimicking his styles and flow.

This created a rift between the two and eventually led to XXXTENTACION making a public statement in fear for his life. I remember the night he posted to his Instagram, “If something happens to me, Drake did it.” Less than a year later, he was no longer with us.

Now, I’m not here to spread conspiracy theories.

My point is — Drake is not a respectable rapper.

Imagine Biggie suing Tupac after “Hit ’Em Up” dropped? Or Jay-Z suing Nas. That’s not what hip-hop is about.

Drake is a great melodic artist — there’s no denying that.

But Drake hasn’t been able to make a hit in years without help.

He cannot rap about a life he has never lived. Hence why the majority of his trap songs are features — by being in proximity to real street dudes, he gets credentials by association. Someone once told me “Drake is a great artist because he makes music for everyone.” Well, it’s easy to make music for everyone when you don’t have an identity. It’s acting.

If he wanted to make a comeback, he should’ve proved Kendrick and all of his haters wrong.

Instead, he does the exact same thing Kendrick called him out for in 2024.

Drake is almost 40 years old. There’s more topics he could focus on other than texting OnlyFans models and trying to blend in with the younger generation. People give Future a pass because his background speaks for itself. Whereas Drake built his image right before our eyes.

Funny enough, his lawsuit exposed how major labels basically manufacture sales and views for their biggest artists.

But money doesn’t buy respect, character, or genuine love.

Sooner or later, the mask comes off.
