When I see my kids using AI, I don’t see a tool for cheating; I see a powerful collaborator — if they’re taught how to use it right. The anxiety most parents and teachers feel about AI isn’t about the technology; it’s about the erosion of learning that comes from using it mindlessly.

Here’s the thing: trying to ban AI is useless. The future workforce will be divided into those who can effectively leverage AI and those who can’t. We need to shift the conversation from “Don’t use it” to “How do we use it ethically and intelligently?”

Let’s break down the seven practical, parent-friendly methods I use to teach my kids to treat AI as a partner, forcing them to learn more, not less.

1. The Critical Review Mandate 🧐

• The Rule: AI output is never the final answer; it is the first draft. Every piece of text or code generated by AI must be fact-checked and substantially edited by the child before submission.
• The Rationale: This focuses their effort on critical thinking rather than rote creation. If they check the facts, they are forced to actively engage with the material and verify the information’s truthfulness.
