Moving Noah’s Ark Without Water

There was no dove with an olive branch in it’s beak. Our ark did not come to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Yet, I do believe there was grace and the promise of new beginnings that brought the ark safely to its new backyard — slide intact.

I should back up a little. For Noah’s sixth birthday, Adam, his wood working partner Jake, and a few friends built him an ark in the backyard. It came from a kit, but was customized in some very sweet ways.

Not that long after, Adam asked me to marry him after the three of us enjoyed ice cream sandwiches by flashlight in the hull of the ship. Their housekeeper, Bertie, had taken Noah to bed while we gazed at the stars above.

The thing was, we wanted a fresh start for our family in a home none of us had lived in before. We found one, 3 days later, close to Noah’s school with a big backyard surrounded by towering pines.

We planned a wedding in my new mother-in-law’s backyard and the journey of the ark at the same time, hoping it would not rain either day. When Adam put his house up for sale, he made it clear the ark was not included. When he moved it, he offered to return and reseed the lawn for the new owners. As luck would have it, they wanted a swimming pool in it’s place.

Last Saturday afternoon, 6 weeks after we married, the ark was moved. It took one flat bed truck, 5 men, a crane and a small town police escort to move that ark.

This is its final resting place. Behind the brick house with white shutters, yet to be trimmed bushes, that now has a new family to call it home.
