🌙 Reflections on Dunya & Akhirah: Personal Insights 🌙

Assalamualaikum wa rahmtAllahu wabarakatu beloved brothers & sisters,

I wanted to share some profound insights from a recent lecture that really resonated with me, focusing on our journey towards Jannah and the balance between this world and the hereafter.

The speaker began by reminding us that whoever truly wishes for Jannah must align their actions with that desire. It’s not just about wanting it; it’s about living a life that reflects that aspiration. If you are believers and people who do good, you have the promise of Jannah, as Allah assures us in the Quran (2:25). This promise is a source of hope and motivation for us all.

He emphasized the importance of educating ourselves about the hereafter. Understanding the akhirah is crucial because it shapes how we live our lives today. The Prophet ﷺ beautifully illustrated the insignificance of this world compared to the hereafter, likening it to dipping a finger in the ocean and seeing what remains on the finger (Sahih Muslim). This comparison is a powerful reminder of where our true focus should lie.

The speaker also touched on a Quranic concept that really struck me: the “enjoyment of delusion” (mata’ul ghurur) mentioned in Surah Ali ‘Imran, verse 185. It’s a reminder that the pleasures of this world are fleeting and often deceptive.

He urged us to favour the hereafter over the temporary delights of this world. Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever is concerned about the Hereafter, Allah will place richness in his heart, bring his affairs together, and the world will inevitably come to him. Whoever is concerned about the world, Allah will place poverty between his eyes, disorder his affairs, and he will get nothing of the world but what is decreed for him.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2465)

A particularly thought-provoking point was about wealth and poverty. The speaker explained that even if someone is materially rich, without a focus on the hereafter, they are spiritually impoverished. True richness lies in contentment and spiritual fulfilment.

He advised us to “grasp the dunya with our hands, not our hearts,” meaning we should engage with the world without letting it consume us. This ties into the wisdom of working for this world as if we’ll live forever, but for the hereafter as if we’ll die tomorrow. It’s about maintaining a balance that keeps our priorities in check.

Finally, he passionately declared that those who give up the excessive love of this dunya for Allah’s sake will find true success. It’s not about abandoning the world but about not letting it distract us from our ultimate goal.

Personal Reflections:

• Strive for a balance between worldly duties and spiritual goals

• Focus on making the hereafter my primary concern

• Remember that true wealth is spiritual, not material
