Why Artists Don’t Trust AI (And Why They Have a Point)
A lot of people still don’t get why so many artists are uncomfortable with AI. It’s not just about “being afraid of technology”, “art without soul”, or “losing jobs.” The real root of the problem is copyright.
In countries like low-class country, the issue gets even worse because we were never taught to respect copyright in the first place. We grow up thinking it’s normal to download cracked software, use music without permission, take images from Pinterest, tweak them a little, and start selling products. This culture of “just grab it” has been around for a long time. And when AI shows up? It amplifies the problem.
So why does AI clash with copyright law? To understand that, you need to know how AI works.
AI models are trained on massive datasets containing millions — even billions — of images from the internet. Many of those images are copyrighted artworks.
The big problem is:
- Artists were never asked for permission
- Artists were never compensated
- Their work is still used to train AI
This process is called data scraping. Think about it: how does AI know what a wolf looks like? What water looks like? How can it mimic Van Gogh’s style, or anime style, or cartoon style?
Because the model learned from the visual data it was fed. And that data includes real artworks by real artists.

That’s why many artists say:
“AI is copying my style without my consent.”
And yes — there are countless cases showing exactly that.
I still remember the early DALL·E era when “AI artist communities” popped up everywhere, and some people even started selling “AI art classes.” Meanwhile, the original artists whose work was used to train these models didn’t get anything in return.
This is also why many design competitions prohibit AI-generated submissions. Though let’s be honest… judges often can’t even tell which ones are AI-made 😅
But the key point is: This isn’t just artists vs technology. It’s about ethics, copyright, and the unauthorized use of someone’s creative work.
Share this so more people can understand the real issue behind the controversy!
