The rumors are true-Marketers Know Everything (…apparently)
“Marketers know exactly what the audience wants.” (Yes, the same rumor that makes clients look at us like we’re modern-day astrologers with Google Analytics instead of kundlis.)

We can predict emotions, decode desires, track attention spans, and basically read minds better than your ex ever could. At least that’s what everyone believes.
Honestly? If I could truly predict what people wanted, I would’ve first predicted my own life. I’d know why I get hungry only after I’ve passed the restaurant. I’d know why I save audio notes but never listen to them. I’d know why I buy planners every January like I’m auditioning for “Organized Person of the Year.”
But no. People think we’re human-Netflix: “You may also like… the exact thing we want you to like.”
Let me tell you a story.
Last month, I created a reel I knew would flop. Zero aesthetics. Zero strategy. Just me ranting about why brands should stop pretending everything is “premium.” I posted it only because Instagram was haunting me with “You haven’t posted in a while…”
Guess what? It got more saves than the reels I spent three hours colour-correcting. It got more comments than the ones I wrote, holding coffee like a “content creator starter pack.” People even DM’d saying, “This is exactly what I needed today.”
Rumor broken. Marketers don’t know what people want. People don’t know what they want.
Sometimes the audience wants education. Sometimes entertainment. Sometimes emotional damage. Sometimes a rant. Sometimes a meme. Sometimes, a post when you’re in your pyjamas and WiFi is crying.
What works? Honesty. Imperfection. Realness. Not mind-reading.
So yes, the rumours are true. Marketers know everything. Except… the one thing everybody expects us to know.
What the audience wants next.
And honestly? That’s what keeps this job fun. Unpredictable. Chaotic. And addictively human.
