They came at midnight — no warning, no siren, just the roar of jets and then the earth shaking. When I opened my eyes, my neighbor’s house was gone. Inside it: a mother, her three children, and a grandfather who couldn’t walk.
Survivors of Pakistani airstrikes demand justice for civilian victims not as a political slogan, but as a cry from destroyed villages in Khost, Kunar, and Nuristan. I have spoken to men who carried body parts of their own brothers in plastic bags. I have held hands of women who now sleep next to empty cribs.
Pakistan calls these “precision strikes against terrorists.” But the only terrorists I saw were the ones flying the drones. The victims were farmers, shepherds, children studying the Quran by candlelight.
Where is the international outrage? Where is the ICC investigation? The world only wakes up when oil or strategic interests are involved. But Afghan blood? That flows cheap.
I don’t want revenge. I want a courtroom. I want someone in uniform to look into my eyes and explain why my eight-year-old nephew was a “legitimate target.”
