Is It Better If the Man Loves More?

You’ve heard this advice before: let him love you more, and the relationship will last. It sounds practical, and protective. But what if that well-meaning rule is built on a shaky foundation? The truth is more layered, and far more freeing than keeping score.

Numerous studies have proven that men are highly likely to explore their options, whereas women tend to settle down and be loyal. In this context, it makes sense that the man must love the woman more because that is the only way for a relationship to flourish.

However, there is no hard evidence that the anecdote is true. Plus, the reality is a lot more complicated than that.

Both partners should put the same amount of love into the relationship for it to flourish. Reciprocal love stems from a place of respect, in contrast to using manipulation (loving someone more than the other) to achieve a goal.

Relationships are not about trying to measure the love your partner has for you. Instead, strong relationships are based on a wider set of fundamental principles and values. It may mean compromising from time to time, but if both partners are willing to do it, the relationship will thrive.
