Day 1: From the City to Serenity
As the first light of dawn kissed the Bangalore skyline, our bags were packed, the playlist ready, and the road calling. The car buzzed with excitement as we left the city behind for Coorg — a place often whispered about as the ‘Scotland of India.’

Our first stop came on the highway — a cozy roadside dhaba where we devoured crispy dosas and piping hot filter coffee.
The journey resumed with the wind in our hair and rolling hills in our view, but it was the Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple, that made us pause in awe. Standing amidst prayer flags fluttering gently in the breeze, the golden statues of Buddha shimmered in silence, radiating peace.

By afternoon, we checked into a quaint hotel surrounded by coffee plantations.
After a simple lunch, we headed to Raja’s Seat, a spot once reserved for Kodava kings. As the sun began its descent, we watched it paint the sky in layers of orange and crimson — a spectacular curtain call for the day.

We ended with a peaceful visit to Omkareshwara Temple, its blend of Gothic and Islamic architecture glowing under the moonlight.

Day 2: Rivers and Falls in the Heart of the Hills
The next morning, after a warm breakfast, we embarked on a long yet fulfilling ride to TalaKaveri, the birthplace of the sacred River Kaveri. High in the Brahmagiri hills, the silence was broken only by the chants of devotees and the bubbling spring that marks the river’s origin.

Just a little further, we reached Triveni Sangam, where three rivers unite — a confluence as spiritual as it is scenic.

While returning, we detoured to Abbey Falls — a wild, frothy cascade hidden in thick greenery. The sound of water crashing into the rocks echoed like a lullaby of nature itself.

Day 3: A Gentle Giant’s Day Out
If there’s one moment that will live rent-free in my memory, it’s watching elephants bathe and splash joyfully at Dubare Elephant Camp. These gentle giants, lovingly scrubbed by mahouts, seemed like playful children. Feeding them was a delight — their trunks curling and tugging like curious fingers.

In the afternoon, we strolled through the Madikeri Fort, steeped in Kodava history. Perched in the heart of Coorg’s capital, Madikeri Fort is a silent sentinel to centuries of Kodava history. Originally built in the late 17th century by Mudduraja, the king of Coorg, the fort was later reconstructed in granite by the mighty Tipu Sultan, who renamed it Jaffarabad.
Under British rule, it served administrative purposes and housed a European-style church, which still stands inside — now converted into a government museum. The fort also encloses a clock tower and a life-sized elephant statue, adding a quirky charm to its regal aura. Standing here, you feel the layers of time unfold — from warrior kings to colonial officials.
Later, we drove to Harangi Dam, where the tranquil waters mirrored the slow drift of clouds — a quiet end to an eventful day.
Located near Kushalnagar, the Harangi Dam is the first dam built across the Harangi River, a tributary of the Kaveri. Completed in 1982, this masonry dam was constructed primarily for irrigation purposes, supplying water to the lush agricultural fields of Coorg and nearby districts.
Beyond its utility, the dam is a serene getaway surrounded by forests and hillocks. During monsoon, when the dam overflows, the sight of cascading water is breathtaking. It’s a blend of human ingenuity and natural beauty — offering both purpose and peace.

Day 4: A Sweet Farewell
Our last morning in Coorg was reserved for shopping. We picked up homemade chocolates, famous across the region for their creamy texture and exotic flavors — a small piece of Coorg to take home. We purchased pure honey and few home decors as well. If you want you can purchase pure and fresh coffee.
As we drove back to Bangalore, the misty hills slowly faded into city skylines. But the scent of coffee, the golden light at Raja’s Seat, and the splash of the elephants stayed with us — like postcards stamped on our hearts.
Coorg is not just a destination — it’s an emotion. It’s where time slows down, nature speaks louder than your notifications, and every turn on the road promises another picture-perfect moment. For anyone looking to lose — and then find — themselves again, Coorg is waiting…..
