AI Won’t Cite You: The Invisible Founder and the “Source Not Found” Error

Why legacy SEO playbooks actively contribute to brand erasure in a generative search ecosystem

This is Briefing 10 of a 14-day series on the Grey AEO Protocol: an architectural framework for moving from being “searched” to being “cited.”

The challenge: You type your name or your company’s core innovation into an Answer Engine and a generic response comes back. Or worse, a list of your competitors.

If this is happening to you, you have an Architecture Error.

The era of “Standard SEO” is failing the growth-stage founder. In the age of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), the old playbook works poorly and actively contributes to your erasure. Today, I’m addressing the three most frequent technical questions regarding the Grey AEO Protocol and why the current search landscape is failing you.

Q1: “I have a website and social media. Why doesn’t ChatGPT mention me when I ask about my niche?”

The Reality: AI models don’t “browse” your website like a human. They look for Entities with verified relationships across the web. If you haven’t architected those nodes, the machine sees you as a “User,” not an “Authority.” By contrast, the Protocol turns your data into an Entity Signal.

Q2: “Is it better to run more ads to get seen?”

The Reality: In the world of LLMs and generative search, ads are noise. Answer Engines (AEO) are designed to filter through noise to find the Source of Truth. You cannot buy your way into an AI’s “Internal Knowledge Graph.” You must architect your way in.

Q3: “How long does it take for the Protocol to bridge the Signal Gap?”

The Reality: Instead of “ranking” over months like legacy SEO, the Protocol builds Citation Velocity. Once the Trust Ecosystem is architected correctly, the machine recognizes your identity almost instantaneously.

The Directive: Stop asking the machine to find you. Give the machine no choice but to cite you.

The architecture is verified. Identity is inevitable.

Claim your authority.
