Roles Are Chosen and Given
(Movement III in An Eternal Game)

From roles imposed to roles reclaimed. The Pattern repeats — until it perfects.
🌿 Setting the Stage
The Pattern is not just around us. It begins to work through us. It whispers us into costumes, offers us lines, places us on stages we didn’t build, and applauds when we perform on cue.
Some roles we reach for. Some are handed down. Some are forced on us before we can speak. And some arrive so gently that we mistake them for our reflection.

Masks hang in the air. Some are grabbed. Some are assigned. Some are pressed gently against our faces till we forget we were ever bare.
The Pattern does not require you to believe. Only to play.
The Pattern does not begin the Game. It is the Game — playing across ages, shifting masks, returning with new costumes and the same questions.
Some roles shimmer in story and scripture. Some are whispered in footnotes.
One stands behind a podium and changes laws. One changes diapers and is never named. One draws lines on a map. One bleeds for it.
One questions the cosmos. One silences the questioners. One turns fields into fire. One turns silence into song.
One speaks as God, and is believed before he is heard.
One kneels, weeps, and obeys — hoping to be seen.
Most simply move, quietly, between home and obligation, between birth and disappearance.
The Pattern does not assign roles with fairness. It samples. Clusters. Repeats.
And when a piece is missing, it fills the void — assigns a mask, crafts a story, and the vacuum is gone before anyone notices it existed.
And when a role resonates, it is replayed — again and again — until it becomes myth. Or god. Or war.
Some roles grow like shadows at noon — swelling faster than light.
One plays the victim long enough to become the voice of wrath.
One wraps cruelty in tradition, then wraps tradition in law.
One sells fear by the gram, then calls it protection.
One shouts so loud, even silence forgets how to breathe.
One rides a flag until it bleeds, then asks who spilled it.
These are not people. They are echoes — well-fed by the Pattern, dressed in mirrors, amplified by need.
The Pattern loves such roles. They attract mass. They snowball. They seed. They bloom into cult, and fade only when the stage burns.
One arrives poor, orphaned by design, clothed in struggle. He says: Having suffered, I will lift you..
He rises by bowing, collecting debt in devotion, laying temples brick by brick, in the name of sacrifice, redrawing the past until only he remains.
His friends grow richer. His image, grander. His people, smaller.
Another arrives crowned in gold. He says: I alone can fix it.
He praises democracy, but bows only to kings.
He weeps for the poor, but sells their names to the highest bidder.
He commits sins like rituals, then sanctifies them through slogans.
He builds echoes in his name, gifts thrones to the rich, and calls it merit.
He speaks only of himself — always in third person, always at full volume.
He floods the game with mirrors, then walks through the one that reflects him best.
He becomes the solution to the problems he creates.
He believes he is the greatest, invincible, inevitable, destined not to serve the world, but to own it.
Most do not play these roles. They are the crowd. The fuel. The chant. The algorithm’s curve.
They work. They cheer. They repost. They live lives worthy of poetry, but die without footnotes.
And still — the Pattern needs them.
Because every game needs players, but it needs more audience.
And the audience — well-trained, well-scripted — never realizes
they are performing too.
Unscripted Roles.
But somewhere, one moves quietly. He lifts others without climbing. He speaks, not to be heard, but to steady what shakes.
He sacrifices not for spectacle, but so the game may heal.
The Pattern rarely amplifies him — but he is quietly emulated, and multiplied.
For all its drama, the Pattern does not stand still.
It burns away false prophets. It crumbles hollow empires. It repeats — until it learns.
And though it stumbles, it evolves. It moves, sometimes painfully, toward dignity, toward breath, toward a game less cruel.
This too is its role.
The Pattern forgets nothing. But it is always becoming, again, and still, and forward.
🌿 Reflection
Which mask do you wear most often? Which one was handed to you? Which one are you secretly waiting to be allowed to remove?
And whose performance have you mistaken for truth?
