Human history, when you zoom out far enough, is really a story about removing limitations. Fire removed the limits of cold and raw food. The printing press removed the limit of who got to read. The internet removed the limit of where information lives. AI is the next layer on that same stack. It’s removing limits on who gets to build, who gets to analyse, who gets to create.

For years, personalisation online for many has basically meant: your name in the subject line, a slightly different banner if you bought something last month, a retargeting ad following you around for two weeks.

What’s coming next is different. Tailored experiences for everyone. Your phone becomes a reflection of yourself. Your feed, your tools, your storefronts, all shaped around what you actually want. Big players have had a version of this for a while. Amazon, TikTok, Spotify, they’ve been personalising at scale because they had the data, the engineers, and the budget.

Today’s tech, and tomorrow’s, takes that even further. AI models can generate code, design, even create entire experiences, on demand and tailored to whoever’s looking. For e-commerce, that means storefronts shaped to each shopper, product pages that rewrite themselves, recommendations built on the actual person rather than a segment. The tools to do this aren’t locked away anymore.
