How to Turn Lecture Notes Into Exam-Ready Summaries

You probably already “summarise” your lecture notes by rewriting slides, highlighting key points, and maybe even making a so-called summary the night before an exam.

If you have ever done all that and still blanked in the exam hall, the problem usually is that your summaries aren’t actually helping your brain do its job.

• Use simple tables to compare theories, case studies, or formulas.

These don’t need to be aesthetic.

5. Use Your Summaries to Test Yourself

This is the most important part, and where many students stop: they write summaries and then never really study from them properly.

• Cover half the page and try to recall definitions, lists, or diagrams.
• Turn each heading into a question and see if you can answer it without looking.
