Sheldon College Workshop
In early December, Marymount welcomed students and faculty from Sheldon College , a co-ed, N-12 independent school “located on 56 acres in a picturesque setting in Redland City on Brisbane’s bayside.” While some students attended a theatre workshop with Marymount’s Performing Arts Department, Don Buckley facilitated a creative mindset workshop with other students.
Students engaged in a number of creative mindset exercises, including:
- Ambiguous objects: identifying unknown objects with (usually) only one function
- Thirty circles: Turning circles into recognizable objects in a short period of time.
- Bug list: Actively noticing and recording everyday annoyances, inefficiencies, or things that just don’t work well (bugs), seeing them not as complaints but as opportunities for innovation, new products, or better processes.
- Lego Serious Play: Students use Lego bricks to build three-dimensional models of their ideas and tell stories about their models.
It is interesting to note that many of the items on the students’ bug lists — from both Sheldon College and Marymount New York — focused on stress. Stress from homework, stress from assessments, and stress from the college application process.
Here are some pictures from the experience.

We look forward to building more partnerships and learning opportunities with our new friends from Brisbane!
