Grandma vs. My Daughter’s Nose

My blogs sometimes become a place for me to freely bitch about things that I can’t bitch elsewhere. I live with fellow creatures who in many ways are wired pretty much differently than I am.

Everyone has their own thoughts and beliefs. They have the right to have them. Superstitions, Overly Compulsive disorders are just mere words to describe the condition some of us have when it comes to do some of our day to day activites.

My two-and-a-half-month-old daughter sees that too.

“Ouch Grandma! It hurts. Stop pulling my nose”.

She thinks in her still developing mind. I wonder what she actually thinks when my mother-in-law does that.

When my daughter was born my parents said that her nose looks like mine. I have a slightly blunt nose. Meaning the tip of my nose isn’t like that sharp when you look at it from the front.

Is this an indirect criticism of my own nose?

Why is she after my daughter nose?

My wife says that our daughters nose is more like her father. This somehow relaxes the adamant nose puller in her a bit.

“Focus on something else. Forget her nose.”

Says an irritated dad, like a rat out of a rat hole talking to a cat.

She then progresses to draw thick eyebrows with kajal(a black color cosmetic used during eye makeup to make your eyes look more prominent.

I have thin eyebrows too.

She also feels that doing so will help in growing thicker eyebrows.

Anything she does that makes me feel that she does to make my daughter not look like me annoys me even more.

I want my daughter to be proud of her looks. I don’t like people commenting on her nose, eyes or complexion. That too from such a tender age.

If she wants she can always go for some nose job when she grows up. Also, I don’t think any baby would have sharp and aesthetic nose at that age.

Uffff.

Some traditions do make sense at some level. No harm in believing in some superstitions if it doesn’t harm anyone. But when it does I feel I have to come out of the rat hole.

There are more things happening in my house.

More superstitions.

More belief clashes.

More drama.

This is just one episode from the ongoing series on Netflix.

Coming from a protective father, I think my irritation is well justified.

My daughter, however, seems more interested in chewing her own fingers than worrying about the shape of her nose.
