What are the different levels of IETM and which level is considered most advanced?
IETMs are typically classified into five levels, each representing an increasing degree of interactivity and intelligence. Level 1 is essentially a scanned document in digital form, while Level 2 allows basic page turn navigation. Level 3 introduces scroll based navigation with hyperlinks and Level 4 is a fully interactive, database driven system with multimedia, conditional logic and cross referenced modules. Level 5, sometimes referred to as an Integrated Electronic Technical Publication (IETP), introduces system level integration and real time data connectivity with diagnostic tools.
For most defence and aerospace organizations today, Level 4 IETMs represent the gold standard, combining structured authoring, interactive 3D visuals, fault isolation trees and intelligent search all within a self contained digital environment. Platforms like Quantum TechDocs specifically target Level 4 and above with AI enhanced capabilities added on top of that foundation.
