GSOC 2025: Community Bonding — Week 2

Hi everyone! I’m Ganesh, and I’m thrilled to be part of Google Summer of Code 2025 with OpenMRS. I’ve been selected to work on the Performance Enhancement Project, and it’s already been an exciting journey during the community bonding period. These past two weeks have been all about getting to know the OpenMRS community, understanding the project landscape, and setting the stage for the work ahead.

This week in particular was packed with meaningful interactions and productive activities. I had my first 1-on-1 meeting with my mentors, Jayasanka and Bawantha, and it was genuinely one of the highlights of the bonding period so far. The conversation was so engaging that it felt like it ended too soon! I asked a lot of questions, got to understand their perspectives better, and we shared a good laugh or two. It helped build a strong mentor-mentee connection right from the start.

One of the key outcomes of this meeting was an action point to create an introductory video about my project. I dove into it and was pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback and appreciation I received from the community. It was unexpected, but deeply motivating — a reminder of how encouraging and collaborative the OpenMRS ecosystem truly is.

I also had the opportunity to attend the OpenMRS Platform Team call, which was incredibly insightful. These meetings give a high-level view of the ongoing progress within the platform and offer a window into the amazing work being done by other contributors. It was a great experience to listen, learn, and feel part of something bigger.

To keep the momentum going, I **created a dedicated Talk thread to share the progress of my project and invite feedback or insights from the wider OpenMRS community. This will serve as a living space for updates and discussions. I’ve also been working on a detailed calendar to structure my work**, break down tasks, and plan timelines efficiently. I’m coordinating with my mentors to review and refine this plan so that we can align on expectations and goals.

So far, the journey has been both encouraging and educational. With a great support system and a solid plan in place, I’m excited for what’s ahead. Stay tuned for more updates from my GSoC 2025 experience with OpenMRS!
