Alright, beach hunters, I’m about to let you in on a Cretan secret that’ll knock your flip flops off. Ever heard of a beach guarded by elves?

No joke welcome to Xotikospilio!

Xotikospilio Beach is this wild slice of Cretan coastline that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

Located 70km southwest of Chania and 30km south of Kissamos, it’s a bit of a trek, but trust me, it’s worth it.

The name Xotikospilio means “cave of elves” in Greek, and there’s a small cave right next to the beach where locals say elves live.

Now, I didn’t see any elves during my visit, but the cave does have a tiny chapel inside that’s pretty cool to check out.

This beach isn’t your typical postcard perfect stretch of sand.

It’s more like nature decided to throw a wild party and this is what happened.

The beach sits in a small, rugged cove surrounded by Crete’s raw, untamed landscape.

Instead of soft sand, you’ve got big round pebbles under your feet.
