I’ve Always Wondered What It Feels Like to Take Risks Without Fear.

Because I’ve spent my whole life fearing them —until it eventually consumed me.

When you grow up in a middle-class family, you’ll get good at calculating stuff. Not the calculation you learn in school. But the kind you use every day. Because you grew up seeing your parents think carefully about spending money before buying things. Without realizing it you start doing the same.

When you were born as a middle-class, you’ll learn that one mistake can cost more than just your petty pride. To you, failure is not a lesson —it could cost your family a heavy burden, your future, your life.

Yoy were taught to have dream big, but not too big. Every single one of your dream needs a plan and that plan needs even another backup plan.

When people say, “Just follow your passion “ and it sounds great. But then you all the tuition fees, living expenses and job prospects join the conversation. And suddenly, your passion starts to feel like a luxury you can’t afford.

As a kid, you learn why your parents couldn’t always buy you the toys as your friends. As an adult, you learn that sometimes you have to give up on your dreams for the same reason.

Every opportunity feels like it has to be worth it. You don’t feel like you can afford to fail because it’s not about you. Every decision feels like a gamble. You’re betting with your familys sacrifices, not just money.

You become very grateful. Sometimes that gratitude turns into guilt. You hesitate to ask for things because you’re worried about the cost.

You learn to think before spending money. You think more before quitting and a lot before taking a risk.

You don’t envy people who have money. You envy those who can make mistakes and still be okay.

Some people see failure as a chance to learn. You were taught to see it as something you can’t afford.

You grow up thinking that stability is more important than happiness. You tell yourself that you’ll chase what you love later. After your family is comfortable, after you’ve saved enough, after everything is “safe”. But sometimes —most of the times, that “later” never comes.

You don’t fear work. You fear wasting it. You know how much your parents gave up to give you opportunities.

You become responsible early. While others are figuring out what they want to be you’re thinking about which dream will be easiest on your family.

You don’t just carry your ambitions. You carry your parents sacrifices, your familys expectations and the hope that one day it will all be worth it.

And that’s the difference.

Privilege isn’t about having more money. Sometimes, it’s about having room to fail. If you were born into a middle-class family, failure has never felt like something you can afford.
