The United Nations’ guilty history

Since the 7 October 2023 attack by Hamas, the United Nations (UN) has been the primary source of information shaping perceptions in the international arena on the conduct of the war and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

An analytical review of that material shows that key UN agencies and officials exhibited a systemic breakdown of core professional standards and of the principles of neutrality and impartiality in their public statements and reporting on the war in Gaza, resulting in significant factual distortions and consistent bias against Israel and in favor of Hamas.

Israel has compiled a report that explains the actions.

This phenomenon has taken several recurring and mutually reinforcing forms:

● Data-laundering: the wholesale dissemination of unverified information from Hamas-controlled authorities as authoritative UN data;

● Publishing misleading statistics: knowingly presenting partial information as if it were complete thereby creating a highly distorted picture of humanitarian realities;

● Complete disregard of Hamas’ role: presenting humanitarian outcomes without the relevant operational and military context necessary to understand their causes;

● Baseless sensationalism: making hyperbolic claims unsupported by evidence.

The above could be titled “Current UN anti-Israel Events” because the UN bias began with the founding of the new state.

UN Founders

The United States and Great Britain founded the United Nations. Cordell Hull (USA) and Alexander Cadogan (GB) helped design the United Nations and write the charter. We can say that Hull was “actively passive” regarding Jewish interests, and Cadogan was openly antagonistic.

In 1947, Alexander Cadogan, the permanent British representative at the UN told Trygve Lie, Secretary-General of the UN, that no Jews should be allowed to immigrate to Palestine to prevent more bloodshed and to prevent any change in the current demographics. Lie agreed, and on May 8 he requested UN member nations to prevent all Jewish immigration that might influence the Palestine status. (UN Yearbook 1946–1947 p 303)

Britain objected to the transfer of refugee Jewish men of military age into Israel after May 15, 1948, and proposed a Resolution to this effect in the UN Security Council. The Resolution, promoted by mediator Folke Bernadotte, was adopted as part of the truce initiative. (UN Yearbook 1947–1948, p 448) It would be 247 days before the remaining 12,000 men held in Cyprus became eligible for repatriation to Israel.

UN and Israel’s 1948 war

The Arab refugees of 1948, were selected by the UN for special treatment at the urging of Alexander Cadogan and Ralph Bunche. The result was UNRWA — an organization that worked with militant Arabs for generations. **Who are these people? **looks at the early UNRWA history.

2001 World Conference Against Racism

Hillel Neuer (UN Watch) acknowledged the conference anniversary.

The measure of an event lies not in its aspirations, but in its legacy. Twenty-five years ago, in Durban, the UN convened a World Conference Against Racism. But this mission was betrayed.

It was turned into a conference for racism. In the streets, thousands of radical activists marched against Israel and Jews, some carrying signs praising Adolf Hitler. Jewish students were threatened. The Arab Lawyers Union handed out cartoons of hook-nosed Jews. Copies of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” the notorious antisemitic forgery, were openly sold.

At the NGO Forum, Israel was declared a “racist apartheid state,” and accused of “genocide.” In the Durban outcome document, the Jewish state alone was singled out as a perpetrator of racism. Holocaust survivor and Congressman Tom Lantos called it “the most sickening and unabashed display of hate for Jews” he had witnessed since the Nazi era.

The author of UN report placing Israel on sexual violence blacklist admits she has not personally viewed any evidence. “I made it clear to Israel I would not visit any detention facility, even if offered. It’s not the responsibility of my office to do any verification.”
