Kate Martin excels once more in Valkyries’ decisive victory

In the Golden State Valkyries’ (3–5) defeat against the Phoenix Mercury (6–4) on Thursday, Kate Martin scored only seven points in 14 minutes of play. Nevertheless, the ex-Iowa women’s basketball star guard returned on Sunday evening versus the Las Vegas Aces (4–3). The Valkyries, inspired by Martin’s remarkable display, achieved a dominant 95–68 victory at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

The ex-Hawkeye played 26 minutes, a season-high, off the bench for Golden State. She concluded the game with 12 points, having shot 5-of-11 from the field and 2-of-7 from beyond the arc. She contributed seven rebounds and a single assist.

Although her shooting was effective for the Valkyries’ offense, Martin’s standout moment came with just 1.2 seconds left in the second quarter when she hit a 29-foot 3-pointer, extending Golden State’s lead to 21 points.

Martin finished her game with the team’s second-best plus/minus rating of plus-30, thanks to effective shooting and excellent defensive work against the Aces.

Martin will next have the chance to display her offensive talents on Monday, June 9, when the team journeys to Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, for a 9 p.m. CT game against the Los Angeles Sparks (3–6).
