How Listening to Naat Can Strengthen Your Love for Prophet ﷺ
In the midst of the constant demands of modern life, societal pressures, and worldly pleasures, we neglect to reflect on our iman. One of the most beautiful and efficient ways of increasing love for our dear Prophet ﷺ in our hearts is to recite Naat Sharif.
Some of us can’t even remember the last time we took a break from worldly pleasures and listened to the Nasheeds. No doubt reciting and listening to Nasheeds has a particular place in our hearts.
Believers can better understand the teachings and nature of our beloved Prophet ﷺ by listening to Naat. This is one of the most beautiful and powerful ways to show our devotion to the Prophet ﷺ; it is an essential component of our faith.
What Naat Does to the Heart
The Prophet ﷺ said,
“None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his children, his father, and all of mankind.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Have you felt that when you listen to the Naat, your eyes get teary? That feeling is not accidental. That’s your heart. Your love for the finest human being that ever walked the earth. The best and most efficient way to deepen that love is by listening to Naat every single day.
Naat pulls it back to the surface. When we listen to or recite the Naat, we express the virtues of the Prophet, his mercy, patience, gentleness, and love for the Ummah. The heart is reminded of whom it should love most.
A surprising reward
The most beautiful Naats are woven around Durood and Salawat, praises and blessings on the Prophet ﷺ. When you listen with a present heart, you are not only enjoying poetry. You are attending a service of worship. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever sends one Salawat upon me, Allah sends ten blessings upon him.” (Sahih Muslim)
Now, think on that. Every verse of a Naat that has Salawat in it, every moment, your heart is in unison with the words being recited in silence. Allah is answering ten kindnesses. Naat is not only a touch to the heart. It brings down the blessings of Allah.
Why the Tears Are a Gift
Don’t feel ashamed if Naat makes you cry. The Sahaba (RA) used to cry when the Prophet ﷺ was honored. Hassaan ibn Thabit (RA) was respected by the Prophet ﷺ as he was the Prophet’s personal poet.
Tears during Naat are not a weakness. They are the tongue of a heart still living, still tender, and still loyal to its faith. It is Allah’s mercy that we can weep for the love of Rasoolullah ﷺ in a world that is hardening us day by day.
Listen with your heart, not your ears.
Choose Naats with genuine and worthy praise. And do it often, especially on Fridays or in the still hours before Fajr when the world is still, and your heart is most open.
Naat is not music when you listen like this. I love this song. It’s a discussion between your spirit and the person you love.
