Super Mario Bros Movie Review!

What a movie!

You know, the Super Mario Bros were the cornerstone of my childhood. I’ll never forget how my mom got me an official Super Mario Bros coloring book, I was Starstruck in every true sense of the word, I was 8 at the time. I played and beat just about every Super Mario Bros game ever made to date.

Then, many years later. The Super Mario Bros Movie was announced and you think I would’ve jumped on it when I was still living with my ex-wife. But I told myself, “No. I’m going to enjoy this little treat when I move into my own joint. And true to form, I did just that.

Rewind time back 5 days ago…..

So, it’s Christmas Day, I’m wasn’t feeling the greatest, in fact I was sick as shit but I felt strong enough to sit through the Super Mario Bros Movie so that’s exactly what I did. And what I saw in this movie was mind-blowing and I’m going to review all of it so if you have and have not seen the Super Mario Bros Movie then let me tell you about it, stud.

1. Story The Story started out a little on the dark side at first, Bowser was harassing some penguins which looked exactly like the ones in Super Mario 64 but naturally, there’s a reason why he did that and why it was necessary so I eventually understood. The story revolved around Mario and Luigi becoming the destined celebrities. The story had mystery, intrigue, bravery, cowardice and a very mouthy Toad. The longer I watched the movie, I fell in love with the story even Mario and Donkey Kong had to work together to save 2 worlds. I won’t spoil it but Mario and Luigi getting that Super Star changed things. I couldn’t believe how the Kongs had their own kingdom, I was so blown away. I was like, “they’re monkeys, they’re freakin’ monkeys, how is it even possible for them to have go kart hook up and whatever else?” But, those were some smartass monkeys though. I was impressed. The story was compelling and it started the legend of the Super Mario Bros who became legends in their right and privilege.
2. Mario’s Training, Now, Mario wasn’t always able to take down Bowser the agile ways he does but now it makes sense how he became so well trained. When I saw the Princess’ training course I was like, “how the hell is he going to get through that?” Then when I saw the princess do it, I was like, “damn!” I loved how Mario eventually mastered the training course and applied what he learned. No one was pushing that plumber around.
3. Princess Peach defending her people You know, it was always something when Mario had to rescue the princess, but it was good watching her defend her people especially when she had that axe and that look on her face like she was ready to go to battle with Bowser. I was so surprised how unfazed she was and how she took Bowser on at their ‘wedding’ using the powers of the ice flower.
4. The Powers Finally, the part of the movie I found was so amazing was how all of the powers from the Super Mario Bros games were in the movie. The ice flower, the fire flower and the tiny mushroom never mind the big mushroom. I mean, the movie made me want to play Super Mario Bros Wii U Deluxe on my Switch because I was that nostalgic.

Overall, the movie was awesome in every aspect and I loved the part where Bowser was torturing Luigi then threw him to the ground saying, “we’ll see how strong this Mario is when he sees me KILL HIS BROTHER!!!” I can’t even remember how many times I died laughing as I rewind it back those 20 seconds. I’d watch the movie again, easily.

If you guys haven’t seen the movie yet, do. You will not regret it. Trust me, I didn’t.
