A life by the sea

Something has fundamentally shifted in my mind since I visited the coast this last weekend. I’ve been trying to fit my idea of the ideal life into something I don’t think it was supposed to be. I told myself that I wanted rural — rolling hills and country roads, but my wife didn’t want that.
I’m wondering now, if the reason my wife rebelled against that idea is because the Universe was waiting patiently for me to visit the coast for the first time since Covid and be caught in its spell.
I can’t get the idea of living by the sea out of my head — it’s consuming me more than any idea of living in a certain place ever has. When I was a child, my family used to holiday at the East Coast every year in August and I absolutely loved everything about it — the atmosphere, the sea air, the amusement arcades and the long days on the beach.
Going back there has reignited a spark in me which craves to put down my roots by the coast and live out my life breathing the sea air and being connected to the power of the sea.
I’ve even been thinking this morning, that I should focus my new YouTube channel called, ‘The Wonderful World of Mr Orchard,’ on my goal of moving my life to the seaside. With a singular purpose of building my business and my life back up from the ashes of 2020, I think I have a story worth watching — the extra something which will attract people to my journey on top of the art and crafts I want to share with the world.
I feel like I’ve finally figured out the missing link — something I can put my energy into and work towards — something worth the cost of pushing past my fatigue because it promises the ultimate solution to my healing if I can just reach that goal.
I told my wife this morning as she set off for work, that I think we should aim to visit the coast every month from now on, in all seasons, to get a feel, maybe acclimatise to the way it feels in every month of the year. I believe that to change our lives, we need to become the person (people) we want to be, even if that’s just doing small things differently.
By proclaiming that I’ve (we’ve) decided that this is the final goal, I’m hoping that a door will be unlocked and the path to reach that place, whevere it may be on the coast, will become possible.
The dream of having my own home studio, equiped to do all of my creative projects has become even more perfect with the addition of being close to the sea. I’m inspired in anticipation of the art I could create, responding to the powerful energy of the sea.
Now I know the destination, I can begin to plot my course.
