Fear or fright?

If I ask you to illustrate your fear, what will you draw? And how will you ascertain that it distinguishes itself from fright?

Paul answers that while fear is often needless anticipation rather than something terrifying, fright is a response we feel in our bones, often in real time. He sketches a beer belly, and Ariel points out that he fears being pregnant. For her, it’s a real fright.

Jocelyn Charles, the director of God is Shy, puts our characters on a train, and, just like life’s journey, you never know who will take the empty seat in front of you or for how long. And while we share the vistas with them, how much do we get to know the other person?

Paul and Ariel were enjoying their ride and sketching to pass the time until a strange woman showed up and shared her eerie story about talking with god. Her intense existential crisis is impossible to ignore. Would you resist thinking if the profundity of the question — “Why do we exist?” appears out of nowhere? What do you think happens after we know the answer?

God is Shy is an invitation to explore our layered emotional existence and, hopefully, map the right words to the right layer. It blurred the distance between dreams and reality with a vivid color palette, uncomfortable questions, and comfortable curiosity. Do we deserve to know the answers?
