On February 1, 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented India’s budget. This budget focuses on growing the economy, keeping finances stable, and helping people. Here are some important points:

Tax Changes to Help Middle-Class People

• The government has raised the income tax limit to ₹12 lakh per year.
• A standard deduction of ₹75,000 means incomes up to ₹12.75 lakh will not be taxed.
• This will help people save more money and spend more, which is good for the economy.
• Corporate tax rates remain the same to give businesses stability.

Support for Farmers and Rural Areas

• A six-year plan will increase the production of pulses and cotton to reduce imports.
• Government agencies will buy pulses at fixed prices to help farmers.
• A new program will develop better seeds to grow more food despite changing weather.

Investments in Other Sectors

• A new committee will simplify rules to attract foreign businesses.
• The limit for foreign investment in insurance is now 100%.
• Small businesses and startups will get special help to grow and create jobs

In my opinion, this budget was mainly focused on increased consumption among people by giving some relief in taxes, but it should have done better by doing something that can help corporates or economy to do well in future.

After this budget, consumer discretionary segment can do well like FMCG, Auto, Tourism and so well Hospitality Sectors also.
