MAN 1 Yogyakarta Student Wins MTQ DIY, Brings Pride to Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — A student from MAN PK MAN 1 Yogyakarta has achieved a major milestone at the 31st Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) at the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) level, held at the Sleman Government Complex on April 17–18, 2026.

The competition brought together 115 participants representing five regencies and cities across the region. Contestants competed in six categories across 16 divisions, judged by 24 adjudicators, in an effort to foster a generation grounded in Qur’anic values and integrity. All participants were top winners at the regency or city level, qualifying them to compete at the provincial stage.

In the prestigious event, Tomzy Arzuleo, a student of MAN PK MAN 1 Yogyakarta, secured first place in the Musabaqah Syarhil Qur’an (MSQ) category as part of the Yogyakarta City delegation. The achievement not only highlights the school’s excellence but also brings pride to Yogyakarta at the provincial level. With this victory, Tomzy has earned the right to represent the Special Region of Yogyakarta at the national MTQ competition.

Head of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, Edi Triyanto, S.Ag., S.Pd., M.Pd., expressed pride and appreciation for the accomplishment.

“This is clear evidence that MAN PK students are capable of excelling and competing at prestigious events. We are proud that this achievement not only honors the school, but also elevates the name of Yogyakarta City at the provincial level,” he said.

Tomzy Arzuleo also shared his reflections on the experience.

“I am truly happy and grateful for this achievement. It is a very meaningful and memorable moment — an opportunity that not everyone gets. I feel honored to be among those chosen to take part in this competition,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to his mentor, Ustadz Hilman Abdullah, who supported the preparation of the Musabaqah Syarhil Qur’an script.

“Thank you to Ustadz Hilman Abdullah for guiding us in preparing the MSQ text, which led us to achieve first place,” he added.

As part of the recognition, winners of the MTQ received trophies, certificates, merchandise, and financial awards. Beyond that, the achievement reflects the success of character and knowledge development rooted in Qur’anic values within the school environment.

The success is expected to inspire other students to continue striving for excellence and to uphold the Qur’an as a guiding principle in life, while strengthening the role of young generations in representing their region at the national level. (HA)
