It all began in mid-May 2026, when a comment by Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant (who later clarified his statement) went viral. He reportedly said that unemployed youth who cannot find jobs, like “cockroaches,” attack the system by taking to social media or becoming RTI activists.

Indian students seized upon this as a key issue, and protests — both online and offline — were witnessed across India against the system.

This derogatory comment offended unemployed and degree-holding youth across the country. Abhijeet Dipke, a public relations student at Boston University in the US, exploited the comment and launched an online satirical movement called the “Cockroach Janata Party” in May 2026

The party’s main slogan was “One Movement, One Nation, One Change.” Any unemployed youth could register online.

-No Post-Retirement Rewards for Chief Justices

If CJP comes to power, no Chief Justice of India shall be granted a Rajya Sabha seat, pension perks, or any post-retirement reward. The judiciary must serve the people, not seek political rewards after retirement

-MLAs and MPs who switch parties after winning elections (aya ram gaya ram politics) must be banned from contesting any election for 20 years. The people voted for the party, not for the politician to auction themselves.

Unprecedented support: The protest went so viral that in just 5–6 days, its Instagram following reached millions, surpassing even the followers of major parties like BJP and Congress.

Whenever they stand up against the system to raise their concerns, their grievances go unheard. Time and again, students in India have had to contend with issues such as paper leaks — situations in which they have frequently put their entire careers at stake.

If we look at the recently held NEET examination, it stands as a glaring failure on the part of the system. People have taken to the streets in protest, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister; yet, even now, no one is listening to them. However, they have now emerged with a distinct identity and a unique name of their own.

From small villages to major cities across India, students are raising societal issues — while referring to themselves as “cockroaches.”

They are pointing out that the system itself is failing to perform the very duties assigned to it. This serves as a resounding slap in the face to the system — delivered by the youth — in response to its sheer negligence.
