About Ballet Classique Academy

Hey there, I’m Olga, the Artist Director of Ballet Classique Academy.

Just as your little dancer has a dream of taking the big stage, I also had a dream — of owning my own pre-professional ballet school. I made that happen in 2015 and since then I have been helping dancers just like yours become incredible ballet dancers.

Many of my students have gone on to perform with companies all over the world!

I have built a school that gives dancers all the training they need to become professional ballet dancers. At Ballet Classique, we give our students the knowledge they need to excel at this artform, while being competitive in the ballet world.

When I was training at the famous Vaganova Ballet Academy in Russia, I learned invaluable lessons that I continuously give to my students. With my degree in choreography and staging, your child will not only learn how to dance. They will learn the ins-and-outs of performing on stage.

Trainee Program

Pas De Deux Classes

Pas De Deux Classes are introduced to selected Advanced students and our Trainee Students. This is a Vaganova class that trains male and female dancers in the art of ballet partnering. These classes involve learning lifts, turns, and synchronized movement with your partner.

That beautiful dance between the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince, that is a pas de deux. Your child could learn how to dance with someone like that one day. How incredible would that be?!

The pas de deux classes apply the same structure that the foundation of the Vaganova Method uses. They build a strong partnering foundation, develop skills, coordination, precision and artistry.

This Curriculum diversifies your child’s dancing from the very beginning. Students receive classical training in the Vaganova Technique from the very beginning. Then pre-professional students get to explore all aspects of dance. This creates a well-rounded dance background that opens many doors for the future.

Many of our students have gone on to accept scholarships with other ballet schools. They also go on to join prestigious ballet companies all around the world.

Dress Code

Pre Ballet

Ladies: Pink Tights, Any Leotard, Skirts and Modest Tutus, Hair in bun or ponytail

Gentlemen: Black tights or fitted athletic pants, any t-shirt or tank top

Beginning Ballet 1–3

Ladies: “Ballet Pink” tights and a black leotard. Split-sole canvas ballet slippers with 1” ribbon secured to elastic. Short ballet skirts may be worn for rehearsal only, no skirts in technique class. Hair in a neat and secure bun.

Gentlemen: Black tights, white T-shirt, black or white canvas split sole ballet slippers

Intermediate-Advanced

Ladies:

ATTIRE

• “Ballet Pink” tights
• Black leotards must be worn Mon-Fri, Colored leotards are acceptable on Saturday
• Short ballet skirts are acceptable, but a teacher may prefer you to remove it at their discretion
• Black tights, bloomers, jazz pants, or running shorts are acceptable for contemporary classes
• Black tea length character skirts for levels with character classes. Black character shoes 2” height

HAIR

• All Ballet, Pointe, Character, Pas De Deux, Repertoire and rehearsals need hair in a neat and secured bun
• For modern and contemporary classes hair can be in a bun, neat ponytail or full braids

SHOES

• Pink Split-sole shoes with ribbons for all ballet technique classes
• Pink Pointe shoes, pointe shoes must be matted for all performances
• Black Character Shoes with 2” heel
• Nude ballet shoes without ribbons for modern and contemporary classes and performances
• Black Jazz Shoes for some performances. They are optional for modern and contemporary classes

Gentlemen:

ATTIRE

• Black Tights
• White T-shirt
• Black T-shirt or tank top and shorts if you’d like

SHOES

• Black or White canvas, split-sole ballet slippers
• Will need both black and white canvas ballet slippers for performances

Auditions

ATTIRE:

Ladies: black leotard, “ballet pink” tights, black skirt, pink split-sole shoes with ribbons.

Gentlemen: Black tights, white T-shirt, black or white canvas split sole ballet slippers.

Ballet Classique Trainee Program

• Acceptance to the Trainee Program is by audition only
• Annual Auditions are held in March, April, and August
• Video auditions are welcome year round (please see Video Audition Requirements below)

Performance Auditions

• Nutcracker roles are set by in-person audition only.
• The whole school auditions for the Nutcracker on Saturday, August 9th from 10:30–2pm
• Specific roles in the Spring Show may require audition. Though most are set in repertoire class

Summer Intensive Auditions

• There are two Summer Intensive Program auditions
• 1st one is March 16 from 4–6pm
• 2nd one is April 20th from 4–6pm

Video Auditions

The video should be between 15–20 minutes long

Is Ballet Training Different for Men and Women?

Yes, in some respects. Women dance on their toes and perfect delicate yet strong movements in their body. Men on the other hand are more athletic, perfecting jumps, turns and lifts with women in Pas De Deux.

What Performance Opportunities are Available?

Ballet Classique Academy puts on three full production shows a year, the Nutcracker and two Spring shows.

Yearly Exams are performed by the Intermediate through Advanced students to determine if they can advance to the next level.

Ballet Classique is very involved in the local Denver Community so the students perform in outreach programs all the time! We perform at local schools, hospitals, and various amphitheaters across town.
