Performance

On Road Performance

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is not a car that tries to impress you with speed, and that becomes clear the moment you start driving it on the road.

In the city, however, it actually feels quite at home. The compact width, high seating position, and excellent visibility make it very easy to drive in traffic. You can squeeze through tight gaps, take sharp turns without stress, and overall it feels much smaller than it actually is. For daily commutes in crowded streets, the Jimny is surprisingly convenient.

On the highway, things are a bit different. The engine feels underpowered, especially when you try to overtake at higher speeds. The 5-speed Manual Transmission still gives you a bit of control as you can downshift and overtake, but the 4-Speed Automatic is slow and sluggish requiring the driver to plan the overtakes early. Stability is decent, but like most ladder-on-frame vehicles, you are bound to feel some body roll. Also, the boxy shape means you will have to deal with a lot of wind-noise at higher speeds. Long drives are manageable, but its not where the Jimny feels most comfortable.

The fuel efficiency of the Jimny, as claimed by Suzuki, is around 16 kmpl but realistically, on Nepali roads, we can expect a fuel efficiency of around 9–11 kmpl.

Off Road Performance

This is where the Jimny completely changes character.

Take it off the road, and suddenly everything that felt like a compromise on the road starts to make sense. The ladder frame chassis, low range gearbox, and lightweight body come together to create something that is genuinely capable.

It climbs over rocks, handles uneven terrain, and goes through mud and loose surfaces with confidence. The 5 door version is slightly longer, which can affect breakover angle a bit, but for most real world scenarios it still performs extremely well.

What really stands out is how effortless it feels. You do not need to fight the car or push it too hard. It just keeps moving forward, slowly and steadily, even when the terrain gets rough.
