Johnny Cage Must Fight For Earthrealm In New ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Trailer

Warner Bros. have released the first trailer for Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat II, the latest instalment in the blockbuster video game franchise. This sequel will test it’s might against audiences this October when it hits cinemas.

As hinted at the end of the previous film in 2021, the sequel will feature the introduction of the popular character Johnny Cage, portrayed by Karl Urban (The Boys, Star Trek Beyond). In this instalment, Cage is selected by Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano; Shōgun, Thor) to participate in Mortal Kombat and defend Earthrealm against Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford; House of David, Those About to Die).

While I found the first film enjoyable, it never quite captured the true spirit of Mortal Kombat for me, despite some gnarly fights. It felt somewhat restrained, as though it was holding back from fully embracing what makes the franchise so iconic. However, judging by what we’ve glimpsed in this latest trailer, there’s a noticeable shift.

The Umbrella Academy’s Jeremy Slater, who penned the script for this sequel, appears to have embraced the comedic flair and larger-than-life personality of Johnny Cage, thrusting the character into a world that is truly unpredictable. This sequel also looks like it promises plenty of action from a whole roster of new and old faces, including:

Building on the strengths of the first film, this sequel promises a thrilling experience that not only remains true to the legacy of Mortal Kombat but also cranks up the spectacle, brutality, and excitement, ensuring that both longtime devotees and new viewers alike will be drawn into its electrifying world.
