Facts About “The Simpsons”

I used to really like them.

When I first saw The Simpsons, I thought they were hilarious. Over time I stopped watching them. They just went a little too over the top for me. Still, while Bart seemed to be the breakout “star,” Homer was my favorite Simpson. He loved his family, it was just hidden under layers of laziness.

Over the years the show has become a cultural phenomenon. It seems like sort of a rite of passage for some celebrities to appear on the show. Now, on to some facts about The Simpsons.

1: Homer Simpson is 5'”11 and weighs 239 pounds.

I seem to remember somebody else who used to reportedly weigh 239. I believe he’s in politics now.

2: The characters skin is yellow to catch the attention of channel surfers.

As I recall from a classic scene in “Taxi”, when Jim asks “What does a yellow light mean?” he is told “slow down.” I guess it works with yellow skin too.

3: Homer’s email address is ChunkyLover53@aol.com.

No deception there.

4: The show makes fun of Fox News, and of course the Fox Network airs The Simpsons.

Money is a great healer.

5: The city motto for Springfield is “Corruptus in Extremis.” It’s supposed to sound like Latin.

I believe that’s also the official motto for Washington D. C.

6: The Simpsons is the longest running show in TV history, surpassing Gunsmoke.

Who would have thought that Matt Dillon would be done in by Bart Simpson.

7: A nude portrait of Marge Simpson was featured in the Playboy issue released on October 16, 2009.

Marge was possible the only woman ever featured with yellow skin and blue hair. She sounds like somebody Capt. Kirk would be interested in.

8: Speaking of Marge, when talking about her and Homer’s sex life, she uses the word, “snuggle” not “sex.”

Sort of like sleeping with someone.

9: Krusty the Clown has reputedly been married 14 times.

No wonder he hides behind makeup.

10: Former First Lady, Barbara Bush said it was the dumbest thing she had ever seen.

As a mother, maybe she just wanted to make her son feel good.

11: Originally Krusty the Clown was going to be Homer’s alter ego. The idea was scrapped but the character remained.

Though in some ways it seems impossible, Krusty is too smart to be Homer’s alter ego.
