Interview with a Cherub

Some years ago, pre-COVID, our parish ran a choir for very young children between four and seven years old, called the Cherubs Choir. Since then, many of them have graduated to the parish Children’s Choir. I recently asked some of them about being in the choir. Here are some of their answers.

Why are you in the Children’s Choir?

  • I read about it in the school newsletter and I asked my parents if I could join. I’m very passionate about singing.
  • I remember when I was in Kindergarten, and I used to sing with my friends in the Cherubs Choir, so I came here.
  • My friend said that if I would join, he would too, so I did and he did too.
  • My Mum made me join, but I still love coming.
  • It’s good; everyone’s friendly and welcoming.
  • I wanted to be in the Choir because I wanted to sing, in church. I wanted to sing to God.
  • I like to sing.
  • My dad wanted to be in a choir, so he wanted me to be part of this Choir.
  • To worship God in another way — you can already pray, and this is another way of praying.
  • I was in the Cherubs’ Choir, and I just continued. It’s fun.
  • I wanted to, and it’s fun, and my mum wants me to, too.

What do you get out of singing in the Children’s Choir?

  • It taught me how to sing.
  • Happiness. I learn how to sing better.
  • Hope — for life?
  • Happiness. It makes me smile.
  • You grow in God’s love with other people.

What do you think you bring to the Children’s Choir?

  • I think I bring something appropriate, like the right thing for a choir, something worthwhile.
  • What do I bring? Disruption, noise — people find me funny.
  • A flute. I love being able to play my flute.
  • Love, and energy.
