NAVAL BASE CORONADO, CA — What a career-advancing win for the young gun driver Corey Heim with 23XI Racing to beat the best road racers in the series on a weekend that had extremely high media attention as part of the US Navy 250th celebration.

Most of the NASCAR media and analysts knew Corey Heim would be a great young talent after watching him dominate in the NASCAR Truck Series and win the Championship in 2025. But then, somehow, the pause button was pushed, and uncertainty hung over Heim’s future … until the month. In the past two weeks, 23XI Racing announced that Heim would race full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series beginning in 2027 and continue his development schedule in Cup and other series through the 2026 season.

Race Winner: Corey Heim Age: 23 Team : №67 — Mobil 1/O’Reilly Auto Parts Toyota Owner: Michael Jordan Crew Chief: Robert Barker
This was Corey Heim’s first victory in 13 Cup Series races. That is just an astounding fact, given the current crop of young drivers with over 100 races who are still searching for their first win in the Cup Series.
Bubba Wallace finished 2nd, posting his first top-10 finish in one race at San Diego Street Course. It is his eighth top-10 finish in 2026.
Kyle Larson finished 3rd. A strong showing, but remains winless for over a year.
There is little change in the season points, as Tyler Reddick leads the standings by 8 points over Denny Hamlin.

From post-race press conferences …
NASCAR VP Ben Kennedy reported that the San Diego race weekend held at Naval Base Coronado attracted over 125,000 attendees from 50 states and 17 countries, with 67% being first-time NASCAR racegoers. WHAT? Awesome!
Race winner Corey Heim: “I’m speechless,” Heim said after completing an extended celebratory burnout. “I mean, we started the race, I think we started 13th. We fell straight back to 20th. Then put on our scuffs from qualifying, struggled just as bad.
“I don’t know if we made any adjustments. (Crew chief) Bootie (Barker) kept telling me these were our worst two sets of tires, we were going to be fine. He was right. I couldn’t believe it. We strapped another set of tires on, and we were just fine. Hit the wall a couple of times and maybe knocked some good into the car. I have no idea.
“After Stage 2, I just took a deep breath. I had high expectations coming into this race. Even playing field for me (as a debut race). You don’t see that every day for a young driver like myself. Just kind of took a deep breath, reset and went after it.”
In the final green flag run of the race, Heim pushed hard, leading the final three laps, and taking the win in one of NASCAR’s most iconic events in recent history.
