Aegean Airlines: Is It Europe’s Best Economy Airline? 🤔

Aegean Airlines is often praised as one of the best economy airlines in Europe.

From their friendly, attentive service to complimentary meals and snacks, it’s not hard to see why.

But I haven’t just flown with them once…

In 2022 alone, I took over six (if not, perhaps more?) Aegean flights within three months (yes — really). I’ve praised them often on LinkedIn, and I realised… why not properly break it down here?

So here’s my honest review of Aegean Airlines (from someone who’s travelled with them quite a lot)…

SERVICE

Aegean Airlines Aircraft (LHR — ATH)

Aegean is renowned for its Greek hospitality. You don’t have to wait until you land in Greece to be met with their warmth.

From the moment you step onboard, you’re met with warmth, friendliness, and genuine attentiveness. Greek hospitality is known for making everyone feel welcome, and Aegean delivers on this every-time.

While cabin crew aren’t required to assist with overhead luggage, I’ve often seen them offer help anyway — which is a true bonus! Small gestures like this make your journey feel personal, not transactional.

They also offer a small sweet to every passenger when you first step onto the aircraft, which really gives them a nice touch!

The result?

It’s a flight that feels less like transport and more like an experience you will remember.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

Economy Class Meal Service

Let’s be honest — airplane food rarely sets us with high expectations…

So don’t expect to be dining on luxury cuisines (unless of course, you are Business Class!)

But for economy class?

Well, Aegean genuinely surprised me!

They offer Greek-inspired dishes — and considering it’s airline food… the quality is impressive! And regardless of your ticket type — LIGHT, FLEX, or COMFORT FLEX — international flights include a hot meal, while domestic routes offer a snack.

Beverage options include tea, coffee, soft drinks, water, and even red or white wine!

And honestly?

This is such a thoughtful and rare touch nowadays as many airlines charge extra for this. So Aegean really wins in this aspect!

COMFORT

Economy Class Seating

The seats themselves are comfortable and with the blue leather? It almost feels luxurious… It gives the cabin a surprisingly premium feel ✨

However — this is where Aegean also loses a few points.

Legroom in standard economy is tight. In fact, I’ve found EasyJet and Jet2 offer slightly more space.

If you choose seats in the first few rows or fly Business Class, legroom improves significantly. But if you’re flying on a budget and seated toward the back, well, be prepared — it can feel cramped!

After a three-hour flight, I’ve genuinely struggled to walk comfortably… (yes, lesson learned).

VALUE FOR MONEY

When you combine: the service, the food, and the overall experience….

Aegean offers STRONG value for money.

And although their fares are NOT always the cheapest around, what you do receive in return massively outweighs the price difference (in my opinion)!

Complimentary meals, drinks, and a consistent warm service really makes the experience feel memorable and enjoyable.

For travellers who value comfort, hospitality, and reliability, Aegean is really worth the value and they are certaintly worth travelling with.

With them, You’re not paying for luxury. You’re paying for care and for the experience. And that matters.

A FEW KEY POINTS SUMMARISED…

Based on my own experience flying with Aegean, there are a couple of points I noticed:

• Legroom: Standard economy seats are tight, especially on longer routes
• Seat selection: Paying a little extra for upfront seating can improve comfort.
• Not ultra-budget: If price is your only priority, low-cost carriers may work out cheaper — but bare in mind, it will consist with fewer inclusions and benefits such as food & beverages.

While Aegean isn’t always the lowest-priced option, the added service, food, and overall experience often make the fare feel justified — especially compared to ultra-low-cost carriers.

But of course, comfort and value are subjective, and experiences can vary depending on route, aircraft, and personal preference!

CONCLUSION

After flying Aegean Airlines repeatedly, it’s easy to see why they’re so highly regarded.

They prioritise people. They focus on experience. And they prove that economy travel doesn’t have to feel impersonal.

So is it one of the best economy experiences in Europe?

In my experience — absolutely!
