Counting Blessings and Losses: What the First Quarter of 2026 Taught Me

The first quarter of this year has been… a lot. Not in the dramatic, highlight-reel way.But in the quiet, heavy, life-shifting kind of way.

The kind that forces you to sit with yourself. The kind that doesn’t give you the luxury of pretending everything is fine.

So I did something simple: I paused and took stock.

I counted my blessings, counted my losses. I decided to be honest about both.

The Blessings

I am still here. That alone is not small.

In a world where so many people are fighting just to breathe, to exist, to make it through the day, I cannot overlook the gift of life. The ability to wake up, to try again, to keep building , those are blessings I no longer take lightly.

My children are here. Growing. Learning. Watching me.

That responsibility alone has kept me grounded in ways I can’t fully explain.

There is still purpose in my hands. There is still vision in my mind. There is still something in me that refuses to give up.

And that matters.

The Losses

But I would be lying if I said it has all been strength and clarity.

I have lost things. Some visible. Some invisible.

Trust, for one.

This quarter forced me to confront something I had avoided for a long time: I have not always been the best judge of people.

I have trusted quickly. Opened doors too soon. Given access without fully discerning intentions.

And sometimes, the very people I allowed close found ways to use that access for their own agenda.

It’s a hard truth to sit with. But it’s mine to own.

Taking Accountability

It’s easy to blame people. And yes, people make choices.

But growth demands honesty.

I had to ask myself: Where did I ignore red flags? Where did I overextend? Where did I confuse kindness with lack of boundaries?

Accountability is not self-blame. It’s self-awareness.

And this quarter gave me a lot of that.

Lessons I Am Carrying Forward

Not everyone who listens cares. Not everyone who shows up is for you. And not everyone deserves access to your story in real time.

I’ve learned that the more people hear your struggles, the more some begin to see opportunity, not to support you, but to position themselves within your situation.

It sounds harsh. But it’s real.

And instead of letting that harden me, I’m choosing to let it refine me.

Protecting My Energy

So I’m making a shift.

I’m stepping back from energy drainers. From constant explaining. From oversharing before things are stable.

I’m learning the power of silence, not as weakness, but as strategy.

There are seasons where you build quietly. Where you heal privately and isolate yourself. Where you figure things out without an audience.

And this is one of those seasons for me.

Still Choosing Myself

Despite everything, I am not losing who I am.

I am still kind. Still empathetic. Still willing to show up for others.

But now, with more awareness.More boundaries.More discernment.

Because being yourself should not come at the cost of your peace.

A Gentle Reminder

Breathing and existing is a challenge for many. And that perspective has grounded me deeply.

So even in the middle of lessons, losses, and recalibration, I choose gratitude.

For life. For growth. For the opportunity to try again, wiser this time.

Moving Forward

This quarter didn’t break me. It revealed me.

And as I step into the next phase, I’m not carrying everything with me.

Some things are meant to stay behind: the confusion, the misplaced trust, the versions of me that didn’t know better.

What I’m carrying forward is clarity.

And that is enough.
