All about the Future Nova

The first work I’ll be explaining is “Future Nova.”

■The meaning behind the song title

At first, it wasn’t a star, but “New birth(rebirth)”. However, the next song was “Jinsei Ouka” (Celebrate Life), and I didn’t like the similarity, and “Nova (the phenomenon in which a dim star suddenly becomes bright after an explosion)” matched the image of the words better with my own feelings, so I changed it.

■ The Beginning

I started this project after receiving a request to create a song with a baseball theme. I wanted to create an uplifting song with a brass-focused cheering squad, one that wouldn’t feel out of place even if it was played at a baseball stadium.

■ Songs

In previous songs, the song often expressed the hardships of the current situation up until the chorus, but this song is unusual in that it immediately chooses encouraging words from the A-melody onwards.

I really like the lyrics overall, but my favorite is “If I stop, the Earth will stop too.” The chords are upbeat and leave room for imagination, so I hope it will encourage people to think about what’s important to them. Each of us is carrying the Earth on our shoulders as we go through life!

“If I eat everything, I feel like I’ll get closer” is also a lyric that is hard to come up with. It’s abstract, but I’m sure it sounds positive, and the flow of “I need to build a strong heart” after the ambiguity is also natural.

Also, the Drop chorus lines “You’re not alone” and “We’re the Future Nova” are filled with the sentiment “Let’s all do our best together” like a cheering squad, and the catchy “Mighty Mighty” is also catchy. When I was told this, I realised that the word “teto” is included in “tachi tsu teto”.

My songs up until now have been mostly self-indulgent, but I feel like something has changed since this song.

I always create the chords, melody, and arrangement image in this way, then hand it over to Ishii-san and he arranges it. It was like magic and it was the most fun moment of the beginning.

■Music Video

Speaking of this work, it’s the very cute cheerleader Teto. Since it’s a lively work, I thought about it with the premise that I would ask Arufa@ to do it. I consulted him saying, “I just want to cheer on the baseball players.”

DADA GAUGUIN’s initial proposal and score progression

As a bit of trivia,

• The scores are based on the matches that were attended to take artist photos.
• The opposing pitcher is actually DADA GAUGUIN. At first, we were planning to make a DADA version, but that didn’t happen, so we made this instead.
• Neither of us knew much about baseball rules or equipment, so we got help from an acquaintance who was on the baseball team.

I went to a baseball stadium to film, and the game I went to see was a fateful game with a comeback win just like the main story. The sense of unity I felt there and the power of the cheering squad made even me in the cheering section feel like I was “not alone,” and it had such an impact on me that I changed the lyrics completely.

From that moment on , I began to think that there might be something destined about this work .

■How was it after it was released?

I made a short animated video by combining live action and added sound effects.This became a big hit on X and TikTok.Overall, the number of viewers increased mainly in the United States, not Japan.I don’t know why, but it may be because cheerleaders are common, the lyrics are simple and straightforward, and the animation is great.

It was a fateful work in which everything went well. I was glad to see that people overseas commented “Mighty Mighty” and that their message was being conveyed.

“It’s been three months since the video was released, and YouTube’s recommendation function seems to have stopped just before it hit 100,000 views. However, the influx of views from various social media platforms hasn’t stopped, so we’re waiting for some kind of trigger.”

That was the draft I had written, but something seemed to happen, as the number of views suddenly increased and has now reached 150,000.
