GLAD TO HAVE BEEN INVITED: Workshop on Advancing Green Skills in Ghana’s Education System

I had the privilege of leading the Green Skills Competency Framework Workshop as International Consultant, in close collaboration with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and key agencies under the Ghana Ministry of Education.

This important initiative forms part of the Regional Teacher Initiative for Africa (RTIA) — an EU-funded programme implemented by Expertise France in partnership with European member state agencies. The project supports teacher governance and professional development reforms across Africa.

The workshop brought together curriculum experts, teacher regulators, training institutions, and education leaders to co-develop a structured Green Skills Competency Framework (KG to Senior High).

Our collective goal is clear:

Equip teachers with practical environmental knowledge and sustainability competencies

Embed green values and systems thinking into professional standards

Align implementation with Ghana’s Education Strategic Plan (Policy Objective 2.2.2)

Translate climate awareness into real school-level action

This was not just a drafting session — it was a co-creation process grounded in mandate realism, institutional alignment, and implementation feasibility. The framework will now guide operationalisation planning, teacher toolkits, CPD modules, and a pilot in 10 schools.

Green skills are no longer optional. They are foundational to building resilient communities and empowering the next generation.

Grateful to NaCCA, NTC, Ghana Education Service, and all stakeholders for their commitment and professionalism. Hoping this idea comes to Nigeria Federal Ministry of Environment
