‘What U Want’, the new track by US singer/songwriter Nomi, has dropped.

There is 100% industry anticipation for this single, as she’s one of the Fresh Finds on Spotify and has been featured as Best New Artists (Spring 2026) by Pigeons and Planes.

Her allure is heard on all her releases, to date. With production sounding deceptively minimal and effortlessly lofi — analogue beats and overlapping harmonies — her dreamy and lush vocals come out on top. When you hear her, you immediately become nostalgic for artists like Janet Jackson, Ashanti and Mariah.

The DIY nature of her sound is very reminiscent of stripped-back garage demos. Even her vocals have an angelic quality like that of the UK’s (supremely underrated) songstress Shola Ama.

“Today, I crave the feeling of you in my shadow” is a strong opening on this song. With all the sentiments of love being at the very core of R&B, Nomi has written a classic. She lays herself bare, and isn’t afraid of emotional intimacy. Like all her songs, they are personal.

It’s so good to hear there’s a R&B resurgence happening and that Nomi is at the forefront of it.
