I Shall Outlive You

Mother Nature finally speaks up

You think my sunsets exist to be used for your Instagram stories,

To be your tacky wallpaper,

which to be honest doesn’t even do my art justice,

You are on vacation,

and yet you stay glued to your tiny rectangle,

Still hondling,

Still in the pursuit of more money,

Not even bothering to come out of your hotel room,

To see the sand castle your children have made,

You stupid man,

I shall outlive you and yet you ignore me and everything else around you.

Your life is fickle and yet you do not savour it,

I do not understand why,

I have seen many men and they are all the same,

Always thinking of what’s next rather than being present,

Rather than acknowledging the power I hold,

Rather than learning from my infinite wisdom,

Failing to remember that I shall outlive them.

You take and take from me,

Yet keep asking for more,

You have made me bare,

And now the sun burns you relentlessly,

You boast about the technology you have conjured,

Making me a footnote in your accomplishments,

And yet I was the original design you based everything else on,

You don’t care that you’re killing me,

Wall street is the only language you seem to understand.

You tiny little man,

Stop what you are doing and listen to me,

You are not an immovable force,

Even if you tried you would not even be able to master a fraction of what I know,

Ever in the pursuit of creating smart technology,

So that you may prove you can be just as great as I am,

Instead of choosing to be better life forms,

You stupid man, I shall outlive you.

Stop competing with me and realise the folly of your ways,

It’s not too late,

I still love you and we can still figure things out,

You just have to stop being so stupid and pretending to know everything.
